Character Design 9

In this character design drawing i was trying to achieve the right type of colour design for a child. The ones that stood out for me was the two bottom design ideas, I especially think the right one is very child like.

Character Design 8

For this character design I was trying to develop more colour ideas for the young super hero character. The reason why I chose these types of colours is because I like the style of Manga and realism. I believe the ones that are in light blue, yellow and green give it that child look maybe because its in a light colour, if I had to choose the one that looks more child like I would go with the yellow hair colour.

Character Design 7

I decided to create a character design that didn't have a black out line and had shading. It took the longest to draw and had more shades of color than any other character design drawing I have created. I Like how it look more like a persons face even though it has that cartoony look about it. I found it a lot more harder to show emotion in this tip of drawing than any other drawing. I quite like the hair style in this character design sheet because it had that messy bed head look.

Character Design 6

This is a character design of different types of faces That I was creating in my sketch book. These drawings were showing what was wrong that I needed to change. I found what I kept doing to the faces was I kept making them look to old but in different ways like the eyes were to small so it makes them look to old or a gave him a way to big of a chin so that made him look like an adult e.g e.g.

Character Design 5

For this character design I decided to show how I got the creatchion of my characters witch are in lines with different colors. Then I drew a black out line of my character so that you can see the shape of my characters, the poses and the facial exspretion. In the last set at the bottom of the page idesided to give it some color ti show what kind of color this character like and it also helps you figure out what he is wearing, like in the little character you can see that he is wearing yellow wellington boots.

Character Design 4

In this character design idea i tryed filling the page up with different parts of the body (closeups). I also Put more detail in the face to give it that 3D look but still keeping the black outlines. I tried doing a more movable pose than keep making him stand in one spot, it looked way more interesting and I decided to keep the guide lines I drew to make it more interesting and you can see the progress. I also didn't want to color in the cloths in this character design so i wright and colored the areas I wanted to design in color.

Character Design 3

In this character design I have used color and drew a background to make it look like he is flying. I decided to try a different way of making the character look younger by making his head look bigger than his body and give him a peanut shape head. I Kind of stayed with the same design of clothing like in the character design 1 drawing but I decided to give it color but only use green and black to give it that boy look. I also decided to change the way his hair was in the 1st and 2nd drawing and give it that flat baby looking hair.

Character Design 2

This character design was supposed to be a 3D look of the head. The key point that I was mostly looking at was trying to make the character more child like by giving him big hair, big cheeks, freckles and dots for eyes. Some areas of the character that did look child like was the freckles and the eyes, the hair didn't work even though I tried giving it a Jimmy Neutron look.

Character Design 1

My character design idea came from one of the young carers that I listened to on the voice recording of the development of their idea's. This is my first try at creating a character design of the young carers idea. I would describe this drawing as less inviting the reason why I think that is because there isn't enough design ideas on the page to show different angles and emotions of this character. I found that i tend to make the character older when i do a side view. The positive thing about this character design is that it gave me more ideas on how i could design the clothes, hair and facial expressions.

Avatar

I got a bit fed up of people saying that avatar is not animation, so I decided to find a behind the seance look of avatar when they were creating the characters.

The Thing 1982 and The Thing 2011

The reason why I posted this on my blog is because they are a different type of animation. I love that the old movie from 1982 was created with puppets and the new movie from 2011 was created with CGI. I like how the two movies were created, for example I like how the new movie is the start of the story and the old movie is the ending of the story. The detaile they have put in the movies is unbelievable.

Tank Girl Opening Credits (OP)

I was watch this video at home and saw that the opening credits had been in animation than just a normal credit seen. I love that its in a comic style and only a few objects move in the seen. I all so like how they are showing you that is was a comic before a film, so they are showing you seen's from the comics that tank girl is in.

Compare the style

Critical Evaluation

The video and the painting have there differences like character design. The faces in the video is in 3D and the shape of the face has pointy fetchers than the painting. The painting is more bright and colourful than the video in some places, the design of the girl is quite child like, it still has its innocence.
The video and painting also had its similarities like the colour choices. The colour in the video was all dark and sad colours but wants it hit the ending of the film where the wall exploded into light, a burst of colour and goodness flowed throw the darkness, it reminded me of the painting. The painting is bright just like the ending of the video its colourful and they both have the same sort of flowery design. The way the colour burst behind the women in the video just reminds me of the way the burst of colour is flowing from behind the girl in the painting.
This is what I found from the video and painting even thaw they have a different style doesn't mean they don't have the same intentions (beauty).

Body Language/Work Based Learning

The technique of reading people is used frequently. For example, the idea of mirroring body language to put people at ease is mostly used in interviews. Mirroring the body language of someone else means that they are understood. It is important to know that some indicators of emotion (e.g. smiling/laughing when happy, frowning/crying when sad) are largely used, however in the 1990s Ekman expanded his list of basic emotions, including a range of positive and negative emotions, not all of which are used in facial muscles. I have found my own areas for improvement. These are twiddly fingers, closed palms and crossing legs. At the moment I am doing presentations and I really have some difficulty in that area of work.

Film Production Analysis

Credit list: This short animated film was created by a young comic-artist called Jesus Orellana, he was the only one who worked on this film.
Why I chose this animation: The reason why I like this animation is because it is a sci-fi and fantasy short movie witch I really like, this movie also reminded me of Final Fantasy. The reason why the short movie reminds me of Final Fantasy is that the character design look the same and the way they have done the background reminds me of it as well.
What role I would like in the film and why: I would like to do the character design because I would like to have the honour of creating someones dream character.
What skills would I need to acquire this role: You will have to utilise and combine a whole range of skills. A character designer must create using a process that is one half design and the other half visual communication. I would have to develop my skills in thumb nail drawings and poses the reason why I have to work on my poses is because I can only do one pose and I would like to create more.
I researched this role to find out more detail on skills that I would need to qualify for this type of job. I have found Information on a job vacancy site.

What influences were there: I believe there are some similarity to final fantasy and Rosa, the reason why I believe that is because of the way the characters look and that detail and color that has been used. This style of work also reminds me of japans style of work. This film reminds me of tomb raider because of the action scenes. Another film it reminds me of is the animation Dead Space movie, the reason why it remind me of Dead Space, is because they both have a hunt scene and it has a sci-fi aura about it. Please see other post for further analysis (Comparison between Matrix and Rosa)

Dear Sir

I am a student studying for a degree in Animation at Plymouth College of Art in England. I thought that Jesus Orellana's work Rosa was really impressive, I especially like the way the character would focus on objects around her just like a cyborg would do. It would be greatly appreciated if I could have a copy of the film for our college archives. The reason why I would like a copy is so that other students can evaluate his style of work.

Many thanks

Jodie

Coraline (5/10) Movie CLIP - The Magical Garden (2009) HD

Denotation
Most of this film clip is stop motion but there could be elements of cgi being used. It starts by setting the scene. It shows the moon coming uo and the garden coming to life. Plants are growing and becoming lit. dying plants come to life. The characters fly off on a locust chariot. They see the Guarden as coralines face.

Connotation
The plants shaped like hearts are beating suggesting that the guarden i coming to life. The father takes on a protective role, holding her close. The lights are brightening and this shows that coraline shouldn't be afraid. The opening scenes are surreal and the mis en scene is a fantasy world. As coaline enters the guarden she looks suprised but pleased and she looks amazed. It seemes to say the atomospere is changing, as though her senses have been taken over. The birds come into the picture which makes the whole scene less scary. as the birds fly around coraline they seem to welcome her in. the birds are waking the guarden up. as the father arrives its as though he is a growsman and the growth is following him in. Coraline is ticked by the plants showing that she can trust them, she is safe. They take offand from the air the garden is Coralines face which shows that the guarden belongs to Coraline. if someone made the guarden for her they must have strong feelings for her (love).

Bad Apple!! - Stop Motion PV

I love stop motion and i love this video i think its great and i would love to be able to do something like this someday. wright know i don't really have the patience in the end my walking person becomes a running person because i rushed the ending. I have a question about stop motion and i wonder if you can answer it. WHAT GIVES STOP MOTION LIFE?

Critical Evaluation
The whole stop motion was in black and white and not in colour. The reason why i think the artist did it in black and white is because doing it in colour would be a lot harder and the fact you don't really need it to be in colour because you can see that its women and that you don't need the detail inside.
I was intrigued by how detailed it was i all ways thought if you drew a stop motion you would draw it with less detail. The use of detail make the characters flow more delicately and elegantly.
I believe the artist used only paper and fel tip pens to create this kind of work and detail, he used at least over 6000 pieaces of work in this stop motion.
the reason i believe why he did this is because he wants to show that you can do this tipe of work in stop motion and the amount of detail as well, the reason why im thinking that is because of the numbers going up at the bottom of each peace of work he or she does.

Invention of Love (2010) - Animated Short Film

I really like this short movie its very emotional and i love the animation i love the style of the animation. I also love the choice of colour how the background is the only one that really changes colour.

Critical Evaluation

If i were to tell someone about this movie i would say how they first met and the reason why the women became sad and why she died and the reason why the man decided to create the women he loved out of machine and why he becomes so sad and depressed.
This movie reminds me of the heart braking love story of Romeo and Juliet, what reminds me of Romeo and Juliet is the loss love of there partner and how they deal with the loss.
The reason i believe he used the colour black a lot is because it stands out and it shows the darkness in life.
When i started to watch this movie i realised the some one was going to die or that there was going to be a really sad ending. The reason why i believe there was going to be a sad ending is because love always ends in sadness because they will die in the end before or after you. I new this short movie was about love because it reveals this in the title.
I believe this animation was created by a computer software but to me it reminds me of shadow puppet.
I would say the artist did a very intense piece of work about love and the reality of loss.

Green screen

I had a class where we got to uses the green screen. I didn't quite like it i find it quite intimidating and complicated for me. I will use it if i had to but i dowt i'll use it if i have a choice.

Storyboard

I did this in one of my lessons and i found it quite difficult to do. The reason why i found it so hard is because i was supposed to do a storyboard of emotion's, so i couldn't draw someone showing emotion i had to draw that emotion. I really didn't find it fun at all, what i wanted to do was draw a storyboard that had people showing emotions, so anyway this is a drawing of a emotion starting from calm to fear it took me a long time to do it but once i new what i was doing i was fine.

Critical Evaluation

I would describe the shapes as drawings of emotions and the use of colour was to show the emotion getting more active, I would say the lines are to keep the emotions in (bottle up your emotion). I'd say that most people would show the emotions on people’s faces and not the emotion itself. I created this piece of work on the computer using the software adobe flash and using a Wacom tablet. If I were to put instruments in with this piece of work it would start off with a flute, violin, trumpet, French horn and it would work its way up to a piano, guitar, cello and end with the drum kit and cymbals.

I believe the use of colour I used was quite powerful; I think people have a strong link to colours to show emotion. I dislike the fact I’m showing what an emotion would look like and I would prefer someone showing the emotion instead.

Drawing class

Today in my drawing class we had to draw the outside lines of objects but only consintrate on the backgroung. I found that exstreamly difficalt and anoying, i really didn't enjoy it. I did how ever injoy drawing from someone elses mind, they had to think of some where tell me what its like and i would have to draw it, it was quite fun and i enjoyed that more than the lines excersise.

realism

This painting called "A mill" was created by Gustave Courbet. I like how this painting blurrs into the colors and gives it that realistic look. Gustave Courbet was popular for his remarkable realism. He was the leader of the French Realist movement in 19th century.

Abstract painting

This is an abstract piece created by Picasso, this painting is called Guernica and was
made in 1937. it was an abstract piece of the bombing of guernica. this was during the Spanish civil war. I see people suffering. the centre of the painting seems to be lit highlighting what is happening.

"Kung Fu Fighting" Rotoscope

Motion comic

In my spare time I have been looking at motion comics I have only seen two different types of motion comics one was called Spider-woman and the other was Buffy the vampire slayer. My favorite would have to be Buffy, because i have always watched it and it was different seeing it in animation instead of reality. What i liked out of motion comic is that they don't miss out on all the different types of monsters where in the reality one they might have not got a lot of money to be able to create the monsters that they need. what I didnt like about the motion comic is the fact you can never tell who is saying what because the lips don't move when they talk. I like this sort of animation because its different and I like the fact it doesn't move as much as an ordinary animation.

Animations Goofs and Errors

I remember watching animation and allways finding mistakes but i always found them funny and not anoying i think my favorite would have to be bambi. I was going to show you that scene but i couldn't find it on the internet so when you watch bambi watch the part when everyone is on a little island after the forest fire theres a baby hedgehog that apears and reapears its really funny.

Mood Board

This is a Mood Board that I and tiffany did; we had about an hour and a half to do it. We picked the pictures off the internet and the pictures are about chaos, we couldn't really find anything that could represent order so we decided to draw what we think order might be. Tiffany sketched the idea of order and I drew it on the computer with a tablet, I drew it on the computer because she hadn't used a tablet before. I like the drawings I think there simple and gets to the point, I also like the righting to say what the pictures mean. What I don't like and what I would change is the background it’s to plain and there could have been something there that could link order and chaos together, but all in all I think it was a very good first try and now I know what to do the next time I have to do a mood board.

Creature Comforts

In my video and audio class we had to watch one of these creature comfort videos and wright what we hear in the video and exsplain the reason.

>Hearing cars in background-when outside cars can be heard clearly when inside more distant. the sound is identifying where they are.
>There are dogs barking in the background and theres some rustling coming from the mike. There are birds whistling and you can hear children in the backgroung when hamster is talking, the sound of the children is giving you a perspective of where they might be.
>There is a cat and a dog on the sofa_house is creaking and a person is moving in the background.
>Cat on chair_classical music identifying the house as "posh"
>When dog talks about scratching a man scratches himself which makes you more aware.
>When flea is talking you can hear other fleas jumpingin the background.
>Security dog_mechanical sound in background-perhaps made using a fridge.
>Dog show-clapping/dogs barking in the backgroung of dog show.
>Background people laughing when jokes are made.

The question of this video is-"which is more reliable the cat or the dog". I belive most of the soundscape was recorded in natural enviroments, except for one sound in the flea section is "foley".

Stick Men

Critical Evaluation
This style of animation is a 2D figure drawing. It quite a simple style of drawing. the reason why I believe this style of short film is good is because of the comedy I think if it was a serious type of film it wouldn't be that entertaining, but seeing as its a comedy it makes you think that maybe they are supposed to look like that and not that its an easy way of doing an animation.
The one thing worth remembering about this animation is how funny it is and how silly and unreal the things they do in the film, like when red was trying to open a packet of crisp so he uses a shot gun to open it, that is something you wouldn't do. Neither the story or the drawings are possible to do or realistic.

Can you see the resemblance?

Caricature

What I know about caricatures is that they have big heads and small body. There funny and existing drawings that make you want to laugh. One of my favourites would have to be the drawing of house from the TV series I thought it was so cool, I especially like the fact someone could have drawn him normally and then pulled the chin down and pushed his cheeks out a bit. I think the only thing I don't like about these types of drawings are the fact they can be quite disturbing sometimes like Penelope Cruz she just reminds me of the gremlins.
